Why do we pray the Holy Rosary? Is it really important? Where did it come from? Why should I pray it?
Dear Brothers and Sisters, these are all very good questions. We desire even more to do something that is worthwhile and valuable when we understand it better. We pray the Holy Rosary to learn more about Jesus and His life. The Rosary is a set of prayers we pray while meditating on specific events in the life of Jesus. We reflect on His life from before His birth (in the Joyful Mysteries), during His life (in the Luminous Mysteries), during His suffering and Passion (in the Sorrowful Mysteries), to even after His Resurrection (in the Glorious Mysteries). By meditating on them we learn how to be more like Him in virtue and have greater peace in our heart.
The Holy Rosary helps us to grow more closer to God and His love. Many Catholics pray the holy Rosary because it helps them overcome their weaknesses. The holy Rosary saves souls. It changes hearts, minds and wills. Mother Mary has been known to appear many times throughout the world, and quite often the Blessed Mother has reiterated a similar message: pray the rosary. Padre Pio said, “Love the Madonna and pray the Rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today.” St John Paul II said, “the holy Rosary was his favorite prayer.” St. Alphonsus Liguori said, “Among all the devotions approved by the Church none has been favored by so many miracles as the devotion of the most Holy Rosary.”
Dear Brothers and Sisters, since the month of October is the month dedicated to the Holy Rosary. Every Thursday during the month of October at 6pm we will pray the Holy Rosary and hear a short Reflection on Mother Mary. Note: There will be a light dinner provided at 5pm in our Church basement. - Fr. Anil
